I want to take up ti chi and martial arts?

i hear that ti chi focuses the mind and help you to build engergy and strength and i need that as my mind is all over the place and i want to learn martial arts because i want to learn how to defend myself, sometimes im afraid to walk certain ways because of certain people being around and now and then i get an insult from some kids and peole round my age,i walk away because im to afrad to start something, now i dont want to start fights, that not why i want to learn marial arts but if a situation came up where i need to defend myself i can and if a person insulted me i wont be afriad and walk away, you get some kids out there who like to feel big infromt of there mates, i just want the mind and courage to stand up to people, now with martial arts no harm can come to both sides if you dont want it to. with ti chi i need this to focus my mind and body and build my inner strength. my question is do any of you do this, do you know any websites, videos, video clips on websites to help me out.

I want to take up ti chi and martial arts?
if you aint got the fighters instinct....no amount of martial arts tai chi or chinese take-aways ( lmao ) will help you to become hard!!!

your best choice is to not actually go at them as if u was going to fight them...but, stand up to em, show em ur not scared, you aint takin this **** anymore!

they will start to doubt themselves and wonder why u can stand up to them...u not looking scared...scares them.

HEE!!! tho having instinct is probs a better all round solution!!

good luck...and dont let them walk all over you, u may be stoppin urself gettin hurt...but you hurt anyway emotionally. like u are now for example

or lmao...dont you know any people who are ROCK HARD!!! ???? that could help u lol
Reply:Yeah. Tai Chi is great. it is an amazing thing. Make sure you learn it from a teacher who teaches the martial applications. Without these, it is incomplete and just a dance, not a martial art. Tai Chi can be a very devestating martial art when practiced correctly. As for video's there are tons of them on youtube. If you want to see some Tai Chi fighters in San Shou check out http://www.oxfordwudang.com/video_footag...

Good luck and best wishes.
Reply:You got no idea of the concept of martial arts.Your simply a guy

who wants to go through life without problems. They come and

one day your going to have to confront them.If there from cowards(bullies)Simply pick up and put it your hand and hit the

bastards with whatever until you feel safe.If your arrested for

defending yourself.Phone Cherie Bliar.
Reply:My advice is: learn a bit of boxing first -just how to hit and block etc... This will give you confidence with tangible skills. While you're learning that, you can look into and research Taichi, because it's hard to find a really good teacher.

With a good teacher Taichi can be a great martial art, but with a poor or fake teacher it can be bogus. Avoid places which view it as a kind of yoga or something. Find a teacher with a good lineage and established school, who teaches forms, push hands, qigong etc... But even then, it takes years to be proficient with taichi.
Reply:You've made the first critical step ....deciding that you want to do something in order to combat the feelings you have when faced with those bullies or difficult situations. You've also make some prudent choices in walking away when previously confronted, and that is exactly what any true martial artist would do also....so you're on your way :)

Martial art training under the tuitilage of a quality and experienced instructor could do wonders for you, but you have to choose carefully. Don't worry so much about the discipline of martial art you take up, but choose the instructor who will teach you very carefully indeed. They are the most significant factor in the development of your self-confidence, self-control, and technique.

I'd recommend speaking with your parents and letting them know why you wish to train. Then, visit the local schools in your area and talk with the instructor/s there. Tell them what you have indicated above and see what their reaction is. and go with the instructor you feel most comfortable with and who understands your position most completely.

Once you begin training, you will hopefully discover that your initial reaction of walking away from them is exactly the right decision, no matter what your martial arts knowledge or skill level becomes later on. Idiots and bullies will always be just that, and ignoring them irritates them much more than rising to their bait.

Good luck to you!
