Where does the Martial Arts Originate from? Which country began it all really?

Some have said China, I have heard India. I am open to answers as to the origins and roots of Martial Arts and where the first official style was and where did it start and is it still taught today?

Where does the Martial Arts Originate from? Which country began it all really?
Many if not most Asian styles have had at least some influence from martial arts from China, India or both. It is often the case that both countries have left their mark especially in Southeast Asia and the Himalayan region. In Indonesia and Malaysia for example, a large number of arts under the umbrella term of Silat are practiced. It is difficult to pin down the origin of these arts, which have much in common with Yoga, Qigong, Yiquan and many forms of Chinese and Indian martial arts. Dharmic iconography figures prominently in contexts to these arts highlighting the influence of Dharmic religions. They have both internal and external qualities illustrating the influence of styles from other parts of Asia.

Throughout Asia martial arts were practiced as can be seen in the art, history and current traditions in Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), Vietnam and the Philippines. In many countries local arts like Te in Okinawa,[4] Kenjutsu and Ju-Jutsu in Japan, and Taekyon and Soobak in Korea - mixed with other martial arts and evolved to produce some of the more well known martial arts in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries like Karate, Aikido, and Tae-kwon-do.
Reply:There are two answers...

Greece... Classical Greek wrestling is the basis of Pugilism, modern boxing and wrestling.

India... The Bodhidharma used fighting techniques, empty handed and bo-staff, to keep monks healthy when he took over a monastery in China. He created breathing kata that became most of the known eastern martial arts, as Buddhism spread, so did ma (kung fu, karate, taekwondo, jujitsu)
Reply:The oldest records of any martial art / military fighting system, come from egypt. I doubt the original teachings are all still intact, however there is still parts of it taught to this day. (sorry I can't remeber the name of the style.) Other very old styles are greek pankration and India's kalaripayattu. ( I hope I spelled that right.)
Reply:To the best of my knowledge, the oldest styles are Kalarypayat from India %26amp; Tae Kyun from Korea. Both are still taught but there are not many practitioners of either.
Reply:Martial arts began in Monterrey NL Mexico with the Aztecs over 100 years ago.
Reply:I believe that martial arts is rooted in ancient human development, stemming from the ability use crude tools, then hunting weapons and later farming tools. These physical abilities were used for hunting and gathering, and later for agricultural use. Later, with the competition for land and increased populations, these abilities and tools eventually became more specialized through the forge of warfare. Through time, this martial knowledge, movement, and concepts were organized into systems. Many of these systems have been broken down into the predominantly empty hand or weaponless contemporary forms we see today.

I don't believe that martial arts started in any one country first. We also have to remember that cultures and people are much older than our countries. I don't know, you may be referring to specific martial arts but generally there are martial arts to be found in every culture including cultures outside of Asia. I don't think it is possible to know for sure but I think it is highly unlikely that martial arts started at one source. It might be like wondering if verbal language or music started in one place.

Probably not the simple answer you were looking for. Sorry. :)
Reply:india a budist monk came from india to the sholin temple. from there it spread throu out asia. but wrestling is a martial art and it started in grease. boxing in england. some in africa.
Reply:The first official style was hitting your opponent with a bone club.

Martial arts originated in many places, not just china and india. Very famous ones did come out of there, though.
Reply:I say that the first "Martial Art" would have came from where ever man originated. Again, this is open to much debate. Human martial arts would have started with the first tribes of humans, were ever that was.
Reply:Just about every country has it's own version of MAs.
