Which form of martial arts is the best to learn?

I'm thinking about taking up a martial arts program, but I want to know exactly which type to take up (Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, etc...). I want to take something up which will help me with A) Self Defense; and B) Self discipline. I suppose the biggest factor would be A.

Thanks.

If you can afford to, go to Kerala, India - and study our Kalaripayittu, the oldest known form [it has been practised for more than 3,500 years !] of self-defense.

You will find that there still are Masters who provide training in this martial art - which teaches one to simultaneously focus one's mind and body and DEFEND one's self, even against armed attackers.

The Buddhist monks of yore [around 250 BC] had taken this art to China and Japan - and this is said to have provided the foundations on which kungfu and judo were developed.
Reply:Incidentally, even the Japanese term 'Judo' could possibly have its roots in the Samskrut 'Yuddha' - meaning 'war' or 'fight' ! Report It

Reply:Thai... very difficult to find master to train you.
Reply:YAW YAN!!!
Reply:I've studied tae kwon do,because of the emphasis on the lower body.I'm 5'5" and can kick a 5'10" man in the face.
Reply:this sport has the biggest drop out factor in Anny sport depending on how good you wish to become don't limit your self to just 1 all so try belay as this will stretch you and make you more limber
