Is it true in martial arts?

Is there any concept of "RED BELT" in martial arts. is it superior to the black belt. I have heard that there is a person in japan who is "RED BELT" in degree. Is it true

Is it true in martial arts?
Belts origionated in Judo. They were initiated by it's creator Jigoro Kanu as a way to determine a students level of knowlege and skill, particularly for students outside of Japan in Europe, Canada and the US.

In Judo once you achieve 6th dan you are awarded a red and white stripped belt mainly used for ceramony as a black belt is still normally worn in the dojo for training, but not mandatory. Once you obtain 9th dan you receive a solid red belt.

Other martial arts styles have incorperated a rank system that uses belts. Some choose to use the same as Judo (white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, black...) Others have adopted their own variations. However up until they were implimented in western Judo dojos no other styles used them.
Reply:Belts are a Karate custom that has been ported to other martial arts in America. It honestly doesn't serve any purpose, true martial artists in Asia doesn't go by belts. They study for the sake of the art itself.
Reply:In our "old" karate belt system, we had red belts, they were in between white and black.

The order went: white, yellow, gold, orange, purple, blue, green , red, brown, black

In our "new" system, the red belt was removed.
Reply:i know in brazilian jiujitsu the highest belt is the red belt which is given after the 8th degree black belt.

some martial arts styles after a person gets a black belt some get red stripes(dans) as they progress to show seniority. and it eventually turns solid red
Reply:old school is like this

white,gold,green,blue,brown,black.
Reply:Tang Soo Do has a red belt -- each martial art has it's own ranking system with different colors.
Reply:Red Belt is the highest belt you can get in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, it is what you get after coral belt, which is after black belt. The only living red belt in BJJ today is Helio Gracie, who is now 94 .
Reply:When a person reaches a certain stage in his training it is a custom in Japan to sometimes present them with a Red Belt, this does not mean they are red, infact they would start with white and go through all the black kyu and then be given the red

it is a representation that this person has completed the full circle of his training, its a philisophical thing, like you start as a beginer and you finish as a beginer
