If you do martial arts does it get you stronger?

Do martial arts get you stronger tell me what they do.

If you do martial arts does it get you stronger?
I'm female, 55, overweight (still a little), and was very unfit... I'm a yellow belt. I've been back to TKD training three times a week for about 8 weeks now after a six month break due to ill health... first week back I could do 1/2 a push-up and no tummy crunches.. I could jog round the do-jang maybe once before running out of puff (like I said; very unfit) and mentally I had to force myself to attend every class..... after 8 weeks; I did 10 press-ups on my toes (rather than the usual lady's on-the-knees stance), did 50 tummy crunches (albiet slowly), I can jog round the do-jang at least 4 times then walk quite a few.. and mentally I can't wait to get there every day... I'm calmer, sleeping better, eating less, yadda yadda yadda...

The work-out makes you physically stronger, breaking through the discomfort/pain of training makes you more disciplined, the ritualism makes you stronger spiritually... All in all a pretty good sport.
Reply:It allows you to beat up other people..!!
Reply:Yes, of course MA makes you stronger, but only if you practice, a lot. It also makes your mind stronger...that should be the strength one should seek. You could have all the strength in the world, but someone technique is perfect, but they are not as strong as you, they still have the upper hand, technique(and the ablity to always remain calm with out being cocky) will always win.
Reply:Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is my favorite martial art. It definitely makes you stronger. You learn how to win over your opponents. You have to be stronger to beat and submit them. It increases your strength and stamina.

It will enhance your concentration too, which makes your mind stronger.
Reply:well duh you dumb ***
Reply:what do you mean by stronger? mentally? yes. discipline? yea. physically? yea(not in the way lifting weights would).

i do muay thai and capoeira and have done some krav maga
Reply:Some people come in and years later are even bigger. They also never train outside of class. Never train hard during class. Nor do they dedicate themselves to a way of living that would help them lose weight.

They say that you can lose weight by simply eating right, so if you do the exact opposite of what those guys did and you try and eat right you'll lose weight and gain more strength and muscle.
Reply:If done properly it will increase your strength and endurance.
Reply:Different martial arts are different. Muscle mass, I'd say Goju-ryu and Uechi-ryu are the best for that. But all martial arts develop some muscle.
Reply:Martial artist will tell you that the teachings and training technique will in deed strengthen you.
Reply:It really depends what you do! Also how you train! You could be stronger with out knowing marital arts! But you'll only need to use a small amount if you master marital arts to fight somebody!
