What kind of martial arts teach you self defense with weapons?

Well I ask the same question, but i guess I wasn't so specific. I'm going to take shotokan, but I need to know what martial arts teach you how to use weapons. Such as sticks and *nunchucks*. Please help =D

What kind of martial arts teach you self defense with weapons?
All of them except not for self defense unless you are going to walk around carrying swords or 6 ft long poles or hand scythes .The sticks are pretty well limited to escrima arnis demano etc as is using the dagger.NUNCHAKU hardly anyone teaches anymore to many idiots whacking people with them trying to be BRUCE LEE.

It's called karate empty or weaponless hand not beat up people with sticks.
Reply:Pretty much all of them when you get to the intermediate stage.
Reply:You are asking a 1000+ year old traditional martial art form from another country most likelly taught by a person from this country to teach you self-defense in another country 1000+ years later. Do you see the folly in that?

The answer is NO they do not teach self-defense, none of them do. They will teach you how to defend yourself in class! The reality is that todays martial art schools are way behind in actuall self-defense and have been for a long time and the gap is growing bigger.

The path many schools are following, I should say trend, is the MMA Sport concept. But this is still sport and translates to jail terms on the street without the proper legal, ethical, and use of force continuums.

you want to learn sticks, learn Kali from Dan Inosanto

You want to learn chhucks, get a rubber foam pair and a book

You want to learn self-defense, I would start with Laur ( do a search you willl find his name
Reply:Most martial arts teach some weapons once you've gotten more advanced. Stick fighting or Escrima is sometimes taught as it's own art, as is sword fighting (Kendo, Kenjitsu). Ask at your dojo to see if they work in weapons at all and if not maybe they can recommend a place to learn the weapons you are interested in. As a rule of thumb you should train for at least a year in an unarmed art before trying weapons out though.
Reply:Gichen Funakoshi's first curriculum had Bo and Sai. (you can do a search and find pictures of him weilding these kobudo weapons) Too bad his students didn't learn his full curriculum. Just his 15 kata, and the ones they learned from Kenwa Mabuni.

flowers sympathy
