Which is better, martial arts or instinct?

Let's say if there were two different fighters. They both exercise and have the same skill, but one uses martial arts moved in combat and the other just propels into a blind rage. Which would win in a fight?

Please give a good reason why.

Which is better, martial arts or instinct?
its a good question.

And has two answers.

If the martial art is realistic and full contact(like kickboxing, MMA, mauy thai, kyokyshin karate) etc the guys who knows those styles will wipe out the average guy working on pure instinct in a matter of seconds.

That's not opinion its fact and you see it all the time. Even the strongest wildest guy, gets humbled by the smallest guy in the club the first time they come into start doing these sports.

However if the martial art is not realistic or not full contact (which means 99% of styles like semi contact kung fu, taekwondo and karate etc. ) a very aggressive guy on instinct of the same power will beat them at least 50% of the time.

That's because the martial artist spends most of his life learning things he has never tested and the first time he gets in a fight he naturally shits his pants and forgets what to do.

I have seen so many blackbelts beaten on the street by big fat strong drunk guys for this reason. Ask any doorman, he will tell you the same thing.
Reply:haha prob martial arts. knowing how to block n attack properly is better than going out there n just tryin to beat the krap outta someone cuz u hate them. lol sounds like another jackie chan movie
Reply:Hi there

A little bit of one and a lot of the other. Also throw in a pinch of luck.

Best wishes

Reply:Fighting also rely on strategy. Knowing how to fight without a strategy is just dumb. ofcourse The combat is going to win, but but it depend if that guy with martial art know how to strategize and use the other person's rage to his benefit or he'll lost because the other person is mad., If that guy is mad( angry), his hit will cause more damage and he'll take less damage when gotten hit.
Reply:For me, it think that:

physical power = form * strength * speed

when you say 'exercise' i think in terms of 'physical training' and i then think in terms of these three areas.

to train strength and speed without form doesnt sound like training to me. i think training all three will give maximum power, i would rather be evenly distributed across all three than deficient in one.

instinct is not something that comes in physical training and i think that instinct is still used by a trained martial artist, its just that the training becomes the tool of instinct.

good question : )
Reply:Training can slow the fight down in a fighters mind, making it easier to handle the situation. Blind rage often leads to disaster against a prepared opponent.
Reply:The blind rage guy/chick/whatever would get tired very quickly and their wild swings would in fact be very weak and inaccurate. They would also probably trip over their own feet at some point without proper footwork.
Reply:depends which art the martial artist practices but i'd say with most traditional martial arts the brawler would win..im not talking about krav, jiu jitsu, jeet kune do etc. im talking about taekwondo, karate etc
Reply:dude what kind of question is this...clearly martial arts...a moron that goes in swingin is a moron that will find himself on his back! If you stay calm and collective its only a matter of time before youll catch the next guy on the chin...or take him down
Reply:if you train long enough... the skills your learn become instinct, or second nature.... and I am way more worried about a calm person in a fight than I am some guy who is all tensed up and pissed off... But a pissed off trained fighter who goes nuts is a bad combination as well.... if they go for the kill with no regard for their own safety..... (by kill i mean figuratively), because once a person passed the point they just don't care about themselves..... any man is dangerous
Reply:Well, if someone is gonna say instinct, then the person with martial arts is gonig to have instinct also.. so id say martial arts, because the person will have martial arts and instinct which is twice better then the person with only instinct, unless the guy is ignorant to use only his martial arts
Reply:Martial arts guy if he keeps his **** together and doesnt react or get scared of the guy in a rage. AN experienced martial artist and genuine nutcases in fact fight calmly and sometimes with a smile on their face, the only people who fight crazy are people who dont have alot of fight experience or are just acting that way to try and scare the other person off, but you sayed a blind rage so to me hat means he is not trying to scare the other person he just doesnt know what he is doing

So if thats the case the MA should win, if the MA hasnt got much fighting experience and gets scared he will probably loose, so it depends, but usually the person who is calm has fight experience either on the street or in the ring, hey btw wasnt there a video posted about this just before, it was something about boxer vs a gang of guys, and you see all the guys with no experience waving their arms around and even jumping on the guy while the MAist is calm and keeps his stance and kicks all their asses?

Oh and i saw this other video of a guy going into a full on Kung Fu stance which in fact freaks the crazy hobo he is fighting out, and there is another video of a klarate expert smashing a pimp, the pimp rushes up to him acting crazy and riping his shirt off and the karate guy stays calm and nails him in the head and knocks him out, go on you tube and have a look at some fights
Reply:The martial artist would win easily, loosing your temper or going into a blind rage would just get you killed, you have no control.
Reply:The martial artist would most likely win.

He keeps his mind clear and so he is the master of his actions. The man in a blind rage may be dangerous, but he has no control over himself. How could he gain control over another? Especially one who has mastery?
Reply:If you have trained long enough and hard enough so that martial arts are your instinct you will succeed .Technique must happen without concious thought.

If you are still at the "what do I do "stage the rage guy will overwhelm you especially if it's an surprise attack.

Awareness observation alertness will serve you better than most technique .With these skills you can get away before it starts or stop him before he starts.
Reply:First, let me say, that if one trains in martial arts and the other doesn't there is no way they have the same skill level. That is a flaw in your question.

The martial artist should have enough discipline to NOT fight. If he is not given a choice then it is a self-defense situation. In a self-defense situation the person that maintains there composure always does better than someone who "propels into a blind rage"

Think of it as a sport. No matter how hard someone wants to hit a baseball with a bat it takes practice and skill. If you take two guys, one who has been trained and practiced hitting a ball and the other just has a great desire to do it and you put these men up to bat ,who would you put your money on? I know I would pick the one who practices.
