Do you think it's funny that all these nervous martial arts guys are hating on Kimbo?

They can't stand the fact that some guy off the street with no formal training is getting in the cage and punishing people. I guess if I had spent countless years and dollars training in some specialized niche of martial arts and thought I could take down anybody, I wouldn't like the fact that some street thug who can brawl was making all those belts look worthless. Yeah, I know most of you will say he hasn't fought anyone with any ground skills, but the only way anyone has gone to the ground has been semi-conscious. I guess my real question for those of you who have trained for years and take martial arts so seriously is this: How much do you pray every night to the martial arts gods that some new version of Gracie or Shamrock beats Kimbo soon so you can feel better about your form of martial arts and the decision you've made to spend so much time and money on it?

Do you think it's funny that all these nervous martial arts guys are hating on Kimbo?
What I think is funny is that YOU think there are true martial artists out here who are hating on anybody...

One of the key elements in succeeding is to pick your battles wisely, and try not to engage in a confrontation with someone when the odds are not in your favor.

It is also not usually advisable to egange in a battle of wits with an unarmed person, but in your case, I'll make an exception..
Reply:Put him against a great fighter and see how good he is. That is the only way, I think, He'll be respected. Tank and Mercer, come on now, really? And Cantrell, no, the guy has lost to james Irvin 2 and was submitted by Brad Imes. Have him someone with a good MMA history.
Reply:this is one of the problems with MMA.. there's such a fine line between brawling and martial arts skill.. if someone like Kimbo went up against a chinese kung fu master in a no-rules fight, Kimbo would end up with a broken knee before he got any punches off.. the rules in UFC favor the MMA type of fighting..

now I know we can't have people breaking bones or poking out eyes, so it wouldn't be realistic to have no-rules fights.. granted I wouldn't pick a fight with Kimbo.. but I also wouldn't bet on him in a fight against a true kung fu master..
Reply:Are you dumb. Lets see Kimbo vs Chuck liddle or Rampage
Reply:Kimbo is marketable....money. Lets face it filling the seats is the ultimate challenge. A fight with tank is a marketing blockbuster. MMa is going to squeeze ever penny out of the hype they can, and rightly so. Just like boxing...you have to have heros and villains....Just think of the money lost if they put Kimbo up against someone who would submit him in one round...So, how good is Kimbo...who knows....I expect we will see at least 2-3 more bouts with easy wins.....then when the fans are tired of that they will bring in Frank Shamrock or the like to wrap him up and put him to sleep....But, I don't think any of the Heavy Hitters are scared of him...Its all hype to make money....and wisely Kimbo is on the gravy train...that's the biggest KO he has managed.
Reply:KImbo has been training MMA in an amazing camp for over a year.

Tank has been at a bar drinking.

So far Kimbo hasn't fought a single MMA fighter yet. He has fought a long retired boxer (whom he did not trade with, he choked him out) a guy who clearly threw the fight, and Tank Abbott, pretty much another glorified street fighter.

Also seems like the only nervous hater here is you? Hating on the fact that you are time lazy to invest time, energy, or training into learning how to fight, yet think that maybe you could do well in one.

Shamrock wasn't that great, and Gracie gets tooled by modern day MMA fighters. I'll take a lower tier heavyweight like Gonzaga, Vera, Herring, Assuerio Silva, Kongo, Mir, Lesnar, or ANY heavyweight in the UFC, or the WEC for that matter, and put a thousand bucks on Kimbo losing at this point.

However, Bas or whomever is managing Kimbo's MMA career is VERY Smart. Given time, and training, he can keep fighting a few more cans and get the experience and training he needs to be a contender, he is definately genetically blessed and physique wise looked great in this fight with Tank.

Given time and dedication, he can be very dangerous.
Reply:judomofo is right. Kimbo has been seriously training MMA with Bas Rutten for a while. New version of Gracie and Shamrock? First and foremost shamrock has always and will always suck balls, second, Kimbo couldn't last more than a round with any top contender at this point, BUT in time dude should get better. We'll see how far he takes it, but your boy kimbo is himself a MMA fighter now not a "street fighter"
Reply:It's not that Kimbo hasn't fought anyone with ground skill. It's that he hasn't fought anyone with any skill. I think he's got potential, don't get me wrong, but I think he's overhyped and unproven. Let's look at his fights against real fighters.

Gannon - Kimbo lost

Mercer - An old boxer who was somewhat overrated in his prime and Kimbo choked him out.

Cantrell - a can

Tank Abbott - He's old and has a losing record. He never beat anyone worth mentioning, but his knockouts were fun to watch because he's so strong. He was what Kimbo is right now.

I do want to see Kimbo succeed, especially since he takes this so seriously in training with Bas, but I'd like everyone to get off his nuts until he really proves something.
Reply:kimbo is terrible and a detriment to the sport fighting community, and i would much rather fight some untrained brawler, than anyone who has actuall combat sport training, kimbo is a huge guy with alot of power who used to be a below average boxer, so he used his years of training in boxing to knock the hell out of normal idiot street brawlers on the internet, and that has gotten him to mma, where he will continue to have guys who throw the fight for him, or who are just complete cupcakes, if he ever fought a decent mixed martial artist, he would lose, quickly, mostly because he hasnt had nearly enough TRAINING.
Reply:The only thing I'm praying for is that he fights someone with skill. Then maybe we'll see what he's really like.
Reply:No one is hating on Kimbo. They are just being realistic. Kimbo is a brawler. An old one at that. He will not impress the knowledgeable people of the sport unless he beats a top ranked UFC pro or the like.
Reply:UUUhhh Just so you know.... Kimbo Slice has already lost to an MMA fighter, his name is sean gannon, and he beat kimbo slice in 2004..... So I think you are a little bit misinformed, here is the video link
