Good martial arts to think about.?

Right now I am 16 years old, interested in martial arts. I want to take Shaolin Kung-Fu or something similar. I don't have the time or money to take any classes right now, but when I am on my own I plan to.

My question is, what are some good Martial Arts to look into.

My friends who currently take Kung-Fu wish to spar with me when I'm good LOL.

Good martial arts to think about.?
Shaolin kung-fu is my favorite - so I say go for that. Lots of versatility so you never get bored. But really picking a martial art is all about finding a school where you can train hard and enjoy your training. If you enjoy being there, then you will enjoy the art %26amp; do well in it.
Reply:Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) is a very good martial art. Takes alot of discipline, but is very good for physical fitness.

Eskrima, Kali, Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do, and Brazilian Jujitso are also very good.
Reply:nnnnnoooo......take Tae quan do
Reply:Anything is a good start. As you progress you will find out which arts are better for you. Good luck.
Reply:it depends on waht you want to do. some martial arts are geared towards self defence and some towards sport. a martial art like Tae Kwon Do is more a sport not because it is not truly feasable to throw a head kick at someone in a fight unless you truly know what you are doing. many traditional martial arts can not be translated *literally* into self defence, if you walk into a street fight with perfect kung fu form and stick solely to your training you are at a very sore disadvantage because you are taught rules that one is not bound to in a street fight.

that rant aside if you would like a self defence martial art look into judo, ju jutsu, karate (true karate) , aikido, or my personal favorite, the israeli Krav Maga. krav maga teaches specifically joint locks, breaks, and skills that were designed to help in a no holds bar street brawl. (israeli self defence system developed by their army for unarmed combat, badass stuff if i say so myself)

if you want a sport martial art look into ,(again) judo, or karate, but also kung fu and tae kwon do.

this is by NO means an exhaustive list.

one more thing. if you want to know what style *you* should take, find one that suits your body, i'm very tall and thin , i'm very very bad at tae kwon do because it's hard for me to move my long legs that easily and my center of gravity makes it easy to knock me down if i have one foot in the air. i prefer rooted styles like aikido, and tai chi quan
Reply:Look into kajukenbo.
Reply:A great one to look into is Krav Maga. Look it up, its the most effecient fighting technique for real life fighting, not choriagraphed fighting.
Reply:Ray is RIGHT!
