compared to most kung fu schools i have seen, FMA students learn using weapons on the first day then gradually progress to empty hands. Most kung fu schools start off empty hands first. FMA does not have any long sets, forms or katas. It is very simple, which is why it is so effective.

FMA was not developed in China. The sticks used in training in FMA are called "sticks". No special names. They are substitutes for knives, machetes and other bladed weapons during training.

FMA is still used for combat and survival in the jungles of the phillippines.
