Knowledge in martial arts can help solve the bullying and crime problem - what do u think?

i feel very concerned about the bullying cases in schools especially in Britain. Do u think that teaching these children martial arts (like karate, silat, judo and taekwondo) will help? so if a bully wants to bully any child, the child can defend himself or herself through this skill?

since the bullying cases in schools is on the rise - don't u think it should be held compulsory?? the kids just need to learn the BASIC art of defending himself or herself...

I personally feel that this issue IS MORE IMPORTANT as the children are the FUTURE GENERATION and there is a need to NURTURE THE FUTURE GENERATION - compared to the so-much debate of the proposed Shariah law.

With the debate, I wonder what the children are thinking: as they observe how adults "squabble" over the Shariah law.

Shariah law is meant for Muslims - so if the Muslims in UK wants it - that's their choice and that's DEMOCRACY

Knowledge in martial arts can help solve the bullying and crime problem - what do u think?
You are very right. Knowledge of martial arts helps. It also provides discipline and philosophy.
Reply:I would imagine that confidence in hand to hand combat

would lead one to an untimely death

by long range gunshot
Reply:ahhhhh just buy them some rat poison d-con lol ;)
Reply:very confusing question, i guess martial arts could help in some situations
Reply:Don't bring kung fu to a shoot out.
Reply:Knowledge in martial arts promotes violence. Crime and bullying can't be stopped this way.
Reply:to knock down someone u need gutts concentration and stamina plus the main thing u need braveness

a perfect karate knowldege is nothing if u fear fights

when we fight we feel fear u have to kill this fear with concentration and keep practise with fighting this fear u will learn to protect urself easily without any martial arts if u know some basic steps of self defence with confidence inside of u is the main important thing gutts needed
Reply:I agree and disagree. If targets get picked on, they can defend themselves, but some bully could take advantage of martial arts, and attack kids with it. .
Reply:I think children who are being bullied should be able to defend themselves against their bully to the exact degree they are being bullied with no fear of getting in trouble. Otherwise the bully keeps the upper hand.
Reply:I don't think that this is a good solution. Violence begets more violence. Kids that bully usually have physicality on their side. If both the bully and the victim become more adept at fighting, it will escalate the violence of the fight but it will probably not change the outcome.
Reply:Bullying in Britain is as old as Britain itself. Without it English working class wouldn't be what it is now. Rough survivors with tough rules of natural selection. Martial arts wouldn't decrease but increase the violence in schools. But go for it You British! More you suffer - stronger you become!
Reply:Horrible logic, then the bully would know martial arts as well, and considering most bullies are more physically fit, the bully would be stronger.
Reply:Okay, so what happens when the bullies learn martial arts as well? Its called escalation in military circles when opposing forces continually try to trump eachother with new weapons.

As for shirah law, the law is applied by the government on behalf of the citizens of the nation. If the muslims in the UK have their own laws, what happens when a muslim commits a crime against a non-muslim? Or the other wat around? Common sense says the law must be universally applied to avoid discrimiation or injustice.

I believe it is only reasonable to expect people who immigrate to another country that they accept that country's laws. I would not go to Saudi Arabia expecting my liberal western laws be applied to me by the authorities there, so why should a fundalmentalist muslim come to a western nation and reject the laws and liberties here because they don't agree with them?
Reply:From my own experience, learning martial arts can give students the confidence to stand up (verbally) for themselves (and confident people seem to be bullied less anyway).

However I would be reluctant to encourage children to use the skills they would learn in any situation unless they are at risk of serious physical injury or death. Many of the techniques learned in martial arts can be fatal, and there are far better ways to deal with bullying.
Reply:Firstly, martial arts are a good idea. However, most martial arts arent that effective. The most effective ones are those that require the practitioner to absorb punishment through sparring; this conditions the practitioner to withstand the hits from real fights. You can have a wonderful black belt taekwondo practitioner who is dazzling to the eye, but gets floored by a good punch because he is unaccustomed to getting hit.

Therefore, practical arts are ones such as boxing, thai boxing, full contact kickboxing are the most realistic for fighting in the schoolyard or street.

Next, Sharia law. There is already a functional system of law established in the UK. If immigrants are unwilling to abide by it, they should leave. There is no place for additional judicial systems here.
Reply:Being strong doesn't help against bully, being bold and confident does. On the other hand doing martial art can help boost confidence and as a result will help against a bully. In the US a student can be punished in all imaginable sorts of ways for being physically abusive. Therefore the most common bullying is psychological pressure and intimidation. Kids need to be told that a bully is like a nightmare and is scary only when you are paralyzed with fear. As soon as you come closer and take a critical look at a bully s/he will not be scary anymore, just pathetic. Tell kids not to e afraid of physical pain, because if they are assaulted, they can report it and a bully will end up in a big trouble. But tell them if you are in a situation that endangers your life you have to "fight or flight". There are plenty of bullies in adult world too and kids need to learn early on how to deal with them.
Reply:Yes, I think it would help immensely
