Where can I find a great Martial arts class in my area?

I need some activity. I'm looking to take a martial arts class on the weekend, but I don't know how to find a place nearby. Using yellow pages online hasnt helped...and search engines never help anything so...I turn to yahoo answers, which always helps me out. Anybody know how I would go about finding a good martial arts class in my area?

uh...where do u live?
Reply:Well we can't really help if you've already done that, and you haven't told us where you live exactly. lol

That sounds easy enough.

SHOWTIME!

Looks like you have BJJ, Aikido, Muay Thai, Judo, Jujutsu, Karate, kung fu, the internal styles, krav maga, and some ecletic styles.

GET YOUR *** TO SOME TRIAL CLASSES! lol
Reply:Try your local YMCA. Many of them have martial arts classes.
Reply:go find mma academy
Reply:using the phone book will locate schools but can't tell you if thats the school for you. There are plenty of things to figure out but these three are most important.

1.what style of MA do you want to do

2.how does that school work( class schedule and enrollment options and costs)

3. attitude of teachers and student.

once you know what you want learn, check out more than one school and see if they offer a no cost/low cost trial period. that gives you a chance to see if you want to stay before you commit a ton of cash. try talking to some of the students and see how they like the school. keep an open mind when interviewing schools and find out how long the instructor has been teaching and involved with the same style. there are many good schools in NYC but there are also plenty of bad ones too. watch out for any place that promises rank in a set time frame

if the yellow pages is no help, try craigs list. look for postings and if thats no help post your own. the nice part about craigs list is everything will be local and if you post its free

hope this helps

sorry you're in NY, i would train you myself but Im in CA

good luck
Reply:Long Island consists of Nassau and Suffolk counties and is approximately 100 miles from beginning to end.

How is anyone supposed to be able to help you?

I looked online and found a few schools in LI.

Maybe you just don't know what to look for?

I'll check around for you.

Reply:As previous responders have said, it depends on what type of martial arts you are interested in. I also live on Long Island (GO GIANTS!) and have been going to this dojo near me for 7 years. Very friendly, not too pricey, classes aren't too big, and a qualified staff. The place is called American Jiu-Jitsu Centers East Northport. The website is below:

There are some dojos similar to this one in St. James, Setauket, Manhatten, and Deer Park

Of course, I'm recommending this to you because I go there, so don't take my word for it. Check it out if you must. Look for other websites; go to other places, find out what you want to do....don't take people's words for it, because they are probably trying to attract business.

Good Luck!
