wondering what martial arts work good for self defense against multiple attackers. i looked into aikido but it seemed to be more of a spiritual art then a proven method for self defense. please recommend a few good martial arts i can get started thanks
What martial arts are good for multiple attackers?
Following the teaching methods of Grand Master Helio Gracie, the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy was established in 1989 by Grand Master Rorion Gracie, to provide the most effective Jiu-Jitsu instruction in the world by giving students the elements to defend themselves as humanely as possible. Roice won the first 5 of the ufc bare buckels tourneys, and his brother rickson has a record of 356-0, he never lost a fight. Most of the gracie jiu-jitsu is tought for only street defence, and if research the style you will see the the father as well as the brothers have hardly ever lost a fight. So i''d say gracie jiu-jitsu it dominates over all the martial arts

Reply:There really aren't any. You don't want to get in a fight, and certainly not with more than one person. Bas Rutten made a 'Lethal Street fighting' DVD that may be useful, but fighting several people is always ill advised.
Reply:Agree with Mr. Chris. No matter what Martial arts you are training, you don't want to situation elevated to the point where you are attacked by several people. When the situation is developed, try to break away and leave.
Reply:avoidence and track and field.if you have no choice but to fight then your best weapon is your brain.the last place you want to be is on the ground so a good stand up style would be of some help.however it is important to cross train in different styles including stand up,ground/grappling and weapons to be able to defend yourself properley especially with multiple opponents.if you are going to fight more than one person be prepared to get hurt even if you win.heres some info that may help with a style.A good well rounded style would be freestyle Karate. You will learn stand up,ground, grappling and weapons. What a lot of people don't understand is that freestyle Karate is about practical street defence not who can kick the highest or punch a pad the hardest. It's definitely not a sport martial art like TKD or BJJ.The motto of my style is the best of everything in progression.Basically that means we don't care where the technique comes from we improve it and integrate it into our style while still maintaining tradition as do most freestyle Karate's.
The hardest thing is finding a good experienced instructor.I would recommend Bushi Kai or Zen Do Kai, but if your not in Australia or New Zealand you may have some difficulty finding some one who teaches these styles. These styles also usually have separate classes available to everyone in Muay Thai and BJJ/Submission/Shoot wrestling. If you can't find one of these i would suggest Kempo or Enshin or another freestyle Karate.

Reply:Only special effects martial arts work against multiple attackers as long as that is what the script calls for. In the real world multiple attackers do not behave like gentlemen. They will not stand there and wait for their turn to attack you with a single punch or kick and then allow you to womp on them. In the real world they ALL come at you at the same exact moment and there is no way anyone can deal with that situation.
I suggest you train for something a litttle more realistic, or you can always get your SAG card and go into the movies.
Reply:I'm sure you will receive many conflicting answers to this question. Fighting multiple attacker is one of the hardest tasks for any martial art. Essentially, then, you are asking what art is most effective and many practitioners would answer that it is their art - otherwise, they wouldn't be studying it.
I am the same here. I think Systema and Qi Dao are the superior martial arts for multiple attackers. It is a bonus that in both these arts, we actually practice multiple attackers and mass attacks.
But this is just one answer conditioned by my experience. You should investigate what martial art suits you.

Reply:Traditional (serious) Okinawan Karate is designed to fight multiple attackers with no, or simple weaponry.
Reply:I would say anything that doesn't involve grappling if, and only if, you have to fight. Otherwise you should run.
You don't want to grab onto one person while three others beat you into the dirt.
Reply:cheyanne kenpo is a combination of a lot of different styles of martial arts. at my school, we always work on multiple attackers.
Reply:Machinegun-fu.
Reply:I would advise nikedo it involves a lot of cardio and really good pair of running shoes.
Reply:Kajukenbo
CHA 3 kenpo
Escrima / Arnis
Reply:i would advise not geting into a situation like tht but if you do at least 1 year of taekwondo will get you prepared enough to be able to incapacitate multiple opponents wit not to much effort on your part
Reply:Kenpo focuses on self defense and multiple attackers.
Its what you are looking for. but its not a tourney fighting thing.. all those kicks to the knees and eye strikes are pretty brutal.
